Losing Ground: Why Taiwan is Eroding Faster than Any Other Nation

As its economy took off and Taiwan took its place as one of the ‘Four Asian Tigers,' the country began rapid expansion of coastal development. Ports, silos, hotels and piers were thrown up all across the island, especially on the industrialised west coast. Now, experts believe that the natural north-south flow of silt and sand which once moved with the seasons and kept the coastline in balance has been thrown into chaos, and entire areas of human development are at risk of being swept into the sea.
